Woodcarver
Dan Hill of
the Busy Chisel is based out of Beesheba Springs,
Tennessee. Dan got his start in making replica period frames for
art institutions, including the John F. Kennedy Library, and then
branched out into sculpture in the round. His work has won numerous
awards in numerous competions, including the National Wildlife Carving
Contest.
Carver
and wood-turner Ken Gould of the Iron Dovetail
creates his work in his shop in Winchester, Tennessee. Ken's woodwork
focuses primarily on functional objects, ranging from exotic wood
letter openers to exquisite lathe-turned bowls and platters.
Luthier
and carver Geoff Roehm of Roehm Guitars
has been working with wood in most of its applications for nearly
forty years, including carving, construction, and instrument-building.
Geoff is one of a dying breed of craftsmen who were trained in an
Old World-style apprenticeship. As such, he believes that craft
is the foundation of any successful art, and that without an understanding
of the fundamentals of technique, it is impossible to create a successful
piece. His painstaking attention to detail, insistence on structural
intergrity, and fine aesthetic are evident in both his sculptural
works and his instruments.
