Potter
David Askew is based out of Cowan, Tennessee. David is a graduate
of St. Andrews Episcopal School and is pursuing a BFA at Center
College in Kentucky. David's work represents an aesthetic strongly
influenced by the Arts & Craft and Asian pottery traditions.
He considers the form to be the most important aspect of his work,
glazes (which he sees as icing on the cake) to be secondary in import,
and the creator of the piece to be least worthy of consideration.
He doesn't want his work purchased because of the name on it, but
rather because the piece itself is loved.
Allen
Hampton
has been creating his pottery in the studio he built in Tellico
Plains, Tennessee for more than twenty years. His forms are simple,
yet lyrical, and his unique glazes echo the colors, shapes, and
rhythms of the Tennessee mountains. Allen mixes all of his own glazes,
so there each firing comes out slightly different. Allen's pottery
is all dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
