Mountain
Works Gallery opened its doors for the first time on September
20, 2005 at 10 a.m. as the latest addition to the Lake
Galleries. We are part of an on-going tradition of arts-incubation,
community involvement, relationship-based business practices. When
we opened, we showcased the work of thirteen local and regional
artists.
In
the following months, the Mountain Works family
grew to more than fifty-five artists and crafts-people. We provided
introductions to more visible galleries to many of our artists,
including galleries in Seaside, Florida; Venice, Italy; and Asheville,
North Carolina, as well as advice on portfolios, presentation, and
promotion. We sponsored free concerts by local musicians and numerous
other on-site events. We provided schools-outreach through the Grundy
County School System, the Watkins College of Art & Design, the
Cheekwood Museum, Fort Walton High School, and the Seaside Community
School.
We focus on community not only in our outreach, but also in our
approach to selling art. We consider the people and processes behind
the work represented integral to the art itself. The artists frequently
stop by the gallery for visits, and the Mountain Works family of
artists is truly that - a family. Visitors are greeted like old
friends and made to feel welcome and at home. The emphasis is on
creating relationships with the art and its stories. We don't lke
the idea of "buyer's remorse." We want our customers to
only leave with work they truly love.
